I don't think our administration or trustees would ever let us follow suit. We'd probably shoot each other up in a faculty meeting.

On August 30, 2006, pianist Stephanie Gurga and I did a faculty recital at DePauw University called "The Romantic Cello." As an experiment in bringing in and engaging a wider audience, we wore jeans and exempted everyone from the usual rules of concert etiquette. Frightening... I really don't think teachers need extra stresses & would rather see that money go to academic research (I'm not trying to trivialize the events that have happened).
What I think would be inherently more useful is mandatory gun education, maybe done in a series of workshops by a trained professional ... point is, if you understand guns & how they work, their weaknesses & gun self-defense, they suddenly seem less scary..
anyway... I think I'm off to sleep for now...
