Dancing In a Classical Concert?
On August 30, 2006, pianist Stephanie Gurga and I did a faculty recital at DePauw University called "The Romantic Cello." As an experiment in bringing in and engaging a wider audience, we wore jeans and exempted everyone from the usual rules of concert etiquette. That's why I was so glad my orchestra had metal containers in which we put the cello cases and made sure in advance they were going to be transported in the heated section of the luggage area of the plane when my orchestra went to China. All cellos were even in tune by the time we arrived at the hotel after a ten hour flight.
