Flying with a cello

Why I always buy a seat for my cello: Airline played instrumental role in orchestral woes. (Thanks to BA at Cello Chat.) And why I drive if I can.

That's why I was so glad my orchestra had metal containers in which we put the cello cases and made sure in advance they were going to be transported in the heated section of the luggage area of the plane when my orchestra went to China. All cellos were even in tune by the time we arrived at the hotel after a ten hour flight.
